4 Effective Ways to Speed Up Your Improvement in Karate

If there is one trait that all martial artists share, it’s the thirst to improve their skills as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, at times, many feel like they’re not improving at a fast enough rate.

Well there’s good news, there is something you can do about it, which is why we’d like to share some effective ways to improve in Karate faster:

1. Attending Classes Regularly

As everyone should know, attending classes regularly helps to build one’s foundation in martial arts, which is a necessary step in your improvement. Without them, there will be nothing to build or improve upon.

2. Private Lessons

Private lessons are one of the best ways to accelerate your training in martial arts. Private training provides immediate feedback directly from your sensei and on a very personal level, helping one to improve skills faster as well as more direct time with your sensei. In contrast, the work you’ll be able to achieve in a half hour outweighs the amount you can achieve in a half hour of class with multiple students.

3. Teaching

Believe it or not, teaching Karate also helps to accelerate your rate of improvement. At American Karate Institute, we make teaching a part of the curriculum on your path to become a black belt not only to accelerate your improvement, but to also challenge your knowledge of Karate. Teaching forces a person to rethink their understanding of it in order to teach it properly, for instance karate stances.

4. Books and Videos

Both books and videos provide valuable information that can provide you with added insight into certain styles, moves, or techniques. Books can help you to understand philosophies of Karate legends that have written them, as well as the actual techniques and moves themselves. That said, reading alone makes it tough to learn advanced techniques. This is where video comes in. Video helps students by demonstrating the actual moves or combinations one is trying to learn and then allowing the student to mimic them at their own pace.
